Your First Visit

“You can’t do it in anybody else’s way—you will have to make a way of your own.  If that happens to be new, don’t let that frighten you.”
Sarah Orne Jewett, in a letter to the writer Willa Cather

I spend the first few sessions getting to know the person I am working with. I listen to their life story so I can understand the facts of their life, as well as how they view and interpret those facts. Learning about someone’s family history as well as the present circumstances of his or her life helps me identify and understand his or her strengths and weaknesses.
